Infidelity. Insobriety. Idolatry. Intrigued? High school teacher Janelle seems to attract all the gorgeous boys-to-men…well, all but her husband, who gives her a front row seat to his secretary-rim-licking debauchery. So she moves into her brother’s pool house and spends her summer immersed in sex ed. The erotic lesson plan for her two 23 year-old ex-students: The teacher schools the man whore athlete. The virgin scholar schools the teacher. Logical? Doesn’t matter because everything’s graded on a curve. For all her sensuality, she has no real romantic focus, ricocheting from character to character with sordid abandon. She approaches her boy toys with emotional detachment and naivety. It’s hard to root for a main character at such a selfish stage in her life, though you can’t blame her too much for realizing her new freedom. But you can blame her for ignorantly marrying that man-sized turd. And damn her friends and family for knowing how horrible he was and not telling her or stopping her from marrying him. What the hell? Her naivety about relationships and the callousness in which she strings along her poor desperate boys might be off-putting to romance readers, therefore I couldn’t quite give it an A. But the love triangle makes it an engaging read. Neither of her lovers are comfortable with her non-commitment. What to do? Cue the cliff-hanger.
