Fifty Shades Freed - E.L. James I read the first book before all the hubbub. Then waited like a crack addict for the rest of the series to release. Characterization was the hook for me. I'm reluctant to categorize these books as BDSM in my collection since James skimped on the intricacies of the lifestyle. But it was Christian's tortured soul and the darker erotica elements that held my attention. The writing style is loose--lots of repetitive quirks and colloquialisms--and Ana's personification of conscience is an annoying rhetorical device. But hell, this is the worst I can say about these books. When it comes to delving into the MC's inward thoughts and emotions, James transcends the competition in this genre. The connection between Ana and Christian was gripping and unstoppable, despite all his f^@kedupness. My review applies to all three books:Fifty Shades of GreyFifty Shades DarkerFifty Shades Freed
