Fifth in the Guild Hunter series, this installment has the same quality and enchantment as its predecessors. I had to put some effort into warming up to the stoic black-winged hero, but I think that was part of the thrall of this story. No sappy I-love-you's, no page-filled-outpours-of-the-heart. Jason is not THAT hero, and while I wanted him to soften just a little, I fully sympathized with why he couldn't. This involution made the last page hard-earned and fully appreciated. The series continues to converge to my favorite H/h--Raphael and Elena--which is why I'm frothing at the mouth in anticipation for the next book. Another Raphael/Elena story!
