No one writes steam punk romance like MB, but what I loved most about this third novel in the Iron Seas series was the setting. Having spent some time in Iceland, I was filled with nostalgia. Despite this being a post-apocalyptic steam punk world, the descriptions of terrain, the sulfur, even how the Icelanders use last names were accurately detailed. I admit the H/h weren't my favorite MB characters. They lacked a certain strength--perhaps it was their shared innocence--but this didn't repel me in any way. The story had all the usual MB tension: sensuality, smart villains, and entangled mystery. I especially enjoyed how a modern day social prejudice was woven into the nature of the towns of Hannasvik and Hymen Island (cleverly named, as well). A brilliant addition to a five star series.
