Creed (Unfinished Hero, #2) - Kristen Ashley I've read thirteen KA novels. I thought Knight was my favorite. This one is better. KA's gift in developing tormented and sympathetic characters explodes in this series. Okay, so all her heroes are ludicrously hawt and sexually domineering--Lord help me, this is the crux of my KA addiction--but they also harbor an honest-to-goodness center that is masterfully exposed in passionate dialogue and valiant behavior. Creed surpasses all the KA heroes before him in this regard. He radiates decency beneath his scarred exterior, his entire world narrowed to his love for his family and his long-lost childhood soul mate. But he's only one half of the impeccably matched whole. I fell in love with the narrator, Sylvie, on page one. She's the most hardened female lead KA has created yet. Her promiscuity, her detachment, her independence, are credible given the nightmare she's endured. This powerful story would've been lost through the voice of a weepy victim. The interwoven passages of past and present wrenched me along with a stubborn and painful lump in my throat. KA shoves you in-scene with the H/h, fighting their internal-external struggles, aching through their hellish chronicle, and soaring in their stolen moments of unity. In doing this, she reached places inside me very few writers can. I hope to see a lot of books in this series, as well as equal amounts of success. (Note: There's a big warning label on these books, but this is not BDSM and I didn't think the erotica was heightened relative to other KA novels or the genre norm. Though there is ass play in this book--a first that I know of in a KA novel.)
