Vain - Fisher Amelie This is the most satisfying book I've read in a very long time. Powerful, thought-provoking and spiritually moving, this passionately written tale is a testament of human love and compassion. Sophie Price is a trust fund brat and the envy of her rich shallow friends...until her self-absorbed crimes earn her the wrath of Judge Reinhold. She is exiled from her cozy world of charge cards and cocaine parties and plunged smack in the middle of third world hell. When you open the gate to this raw and exquisite perspective of poverty, the filth and disease and beauty of Uganda's brutalized children will spill out around your overpriced shoes. You'll forget the shoes. And you won't look away. In fact, your heart will engage so thoroughly, you'll feel it swell painfully in your chest. This is the epitome of the hero's journey, one in which Sophie Price transforms from spoiled and stereotyped to altruistic and courageous. You are able not only to sympathize with her but evolve with her, rooting for her from start to finish. Her pilgrimage will revitalize you. It will give you a renewed look at life and remind you that your own life is ludicrously good.If you aren't affected by Vain, perhaps you need a Sophie Price court ordered punishment. Note: This romance is devoid of explicit sexual content. It doesn't need it. The love story is so engrossing and well-developed, the conflict with the orphanage so profound, it will leave you prostrate and sated.
